The Science Behind the Feed

Stance Equine was founded over 30 years ago by Dr Tim Kempton, who holds a Bachelor of Rural Science and a Ph.D. in Nutritional Biochemistry. A lifelong horseman and stockman, Dr Tim competed at many levels across Australia and rode in the historic around-Australia horse ride to mark the opening of the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

Drawing on his research career, Dr Tim challenged the conventional reliance on high-grain diets after observing the toll they took on competition horses — hot and fizzy behaviour, tying up, and a range of metabolic disorders. His research confirmed what is now widely accepted: high NSC (non-structural carbohydrate) feeds are a major contributor to obesity, gastrointestinal ulcers, colic, laminitis, EMS, and Cushing's disease in horses.

CoolStance — The Foundation Product

Dr Tim pioneered research into coconut meal and coconut oil in horse and cattle nutrition in the 1980s. The result was CoolStance — a GMO-free, chemical-free coconut meal with a low NSC of just 11% and a high level of digestible energy from its natural coconut oil (8–10%) and digestible fibre. CoolStance is now trusted by dedicated horse owners across Australia, New Zealand, the US, the UK, and South Africa.

Equitec — Holistic Performance Support

The Equitec range was founded by Ken Ford, a Naturopath Chiropractor who applies the principles of biogenics to equine health.
