Harvest Grains - Mega Boost

Horses that ‘tie up’ on a diet containing oats may have a genetic predisposition or “Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy”, or PSSM for short, where they store an excess amount of muscle sugars (glycogen) in their rump and limb muscles. PSSM horses are commonly “good doers”, with bulky, hard muscles packed with excess glycogen.

Note: PSSM type horses are best not fed oats (natural or cooked) or extruded feeds - the starch uptake from these feeds (oats 75% soluble starch uptake from small bowel to muscle glycogen) is much more efficient than from raw barley or corn and packs glycogen into the muscle cells to over store it in PSSM type horses.

Mega-Boost  is sweet and tasty with higher calories for more energy during training, racing and competition. If feeding more than than the horse requires for its work load then increased body condition can be expected. High calorie grains are combined with a mix of seed, legume, fibers and cold pressed oils to provide sources of energy and omegas needed for consistent performance. Chelated, inorganic and organic minerals, coated vitamins, rich anti-oxidants, Vitamin E 585iu per kg along with methionine, biotin and chromium to assist with a speedier recovery following hard work-outs. When feeding below the maximum kg rate per day it may be necessary to fulfill nutrient shortfalls with a measured dose of quality mineral & vitamin supplement. this will ensure your horses health and metabolism are not compromised. Add salt or electrolytes as work intensity or sweat loss increases. Seek advice if not sure your horse is receiving the correct amount of selenium

Feeding Guide:

light work / 300kg = 1 - 2.5kg / 400kg = 2 - 3.5kg / 500kg = 3 - 4.5kg / 600kg = up to 5kg

moderate work / 300kg = 2 - 3kg / 400kg = 3 - 4kg / 500kg = 4 - 5kg / 600kg = up to 6kg

heavy work / 300kg = 3 - 4kg / 400kg = 4 - 5kg / 500kg = 5 - 6kg / 600kg = up to 7kg

Feeding advice:   If feeding for the first time gradually introduce over a minimum 10 days so the horses digestive system can adjust gradually to the new diet, proteins and oils. When in moderate/heavy work split daily total between a minimum 3 feeds per day. Ensure your horses receive a minimum 1.5% of their body-weight as additional good quality fiber and give open access to fresh clean drinking water and salt block if needed. Selenium testing is advisable to ensure levels meet the horses individual needs.
